Steam is an acronysm which represent a group of 4 specific field : Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
A software engineer generally have to use all of the S.T.E.M field to fulfil his position. One of the most recent one is the role of Artifical inteligence engineer.
Thoses engineer are unique because they are able to create program with a new methodology. Before them, when we needed to create a program, engineer needed to explain explicitly every rule. Today, with Artificial intelligence we can create some software which are able to find those rule themself.
This position is unique because, it’s a new field and it’s really use in every modern company. Thos position are able to solve problem that was impossible to solve before.
Even if this role is like all other computer sciences role, based on informatics, uses computer and a kind of algorythm to solve problem. It’s also different because the way of solving it is totally different.
In IA when we try to solve a problem, we don’t have to explicit every rule needed to solve a problem. We simply need to show to the computer some example of solution. With this example, the computer will be able to determines thoses rules alone. That’s incredible because we can now improve greatly the capacity of analysing and solving a problem without having the solution.
For example, if i want to find the link between two series of number: 5,6,8,9,12,14 and 9,11,15,17,23,27. Maybe you could find the solution by thinking of it. In traditional computing the programmer will write the rule
y = 2x -1. This solution is easy to find. An IA engineer will not try to find the rule by himself but , will give to the computer a series of number, then he will train the computer with a lot of number, at each iteration it will be able to adjust his hypothesis and at the end, the computer will be able to find himself the solution. That’s a real revolution for computer science.
With IA we can solve lot of analysis problem, create quite good recocognition software (visual or audio), or even create a autonomous car.
The positive of this position if that we are at the edge of the computer science. the negative side is that it’s new and we have to read a lot of documentations of article and read on rescearsch paper in order to be able to stay a the edge of that new science.
